On May 26, 2021, both houses of the Illinois General Assembly passed a law amending the Illinois Public Community Act and the Illinois School Code to provide family and medical leave to any employee of a community college or school district who has been employed for at least 12 months and has worked at least 1,000 hours in the previous 12-month period. The 1,000-hour work requirement is 250 hours less than the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act. The Governor is expected to sign this legislation making it effective January 1, 2022.
