Emily P. Bothfeld counsels school districts and higher education institutions on a variety of issues, including matters related to student discipline, Title IX, free speech, student disability rights, student data privacy, and policy development. She has extensive experience representing educational institutions in responding to complaints filed with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, Illinois State Board of Education, Office of the Illinois Attorney General, and Illinois Department of Human Rights. Emily regularly represents school districts and higher education institutions in state and federal court on civil rights and constitutional claims and breach of contract claims.

Emily received her Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University and her Juris Doctorate with honors from George
Washington University.

Susan E. Nicholas represents educational entities, municipalities, not-for-profit organizations, and other public bodies. Susan assists clients in employment-related matters and negotiations, including grievances, discrimination complaints, wrongful termination claims, civil rights violations, and Constitutional claims. Besides employment matters, Susan also assists clients in student rights and student discipline matters, board governance, obligations under the Freedom of Information Act, and general education matters. Susan conducts training for clients on issues specific to client needs,
including sexual harassment training, Title IX obligations, compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, student
discipline and due process, student rights, employee evaluation, and employee discipline.

Susan received her Bachelor of Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University and her Juris Doctorate from Southern Illinois University.
