Open Meetings Act (OMA)
Our attorneys regularly assist colleges with Open Meetings Act (OMA) compliance. This includes, but is not limited to, advising on proper meeting notice, agenda content, meeting records, specifications for meetings and board action, office vacancies and elections, closed meetings, public hearings, public participation and comment, participation of non-voting student trustees, special rules during disaster declarations, managing and preparing for meetings concerning controversial topics, and board communications. At Robbins Schwartz, we interpret and advise clients on the application of binding and advisory opinions from the office of the Public Access Counselor (PAC) in the Illinois Attorney General’s office. In the event that a college receives an OMA complaint, we work with them to respond to and resolve disputes involving alleged or potential violations of OMA.
