K-12 School Districts Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational entities that receive federal funding. Title IX also prohibits sexual harassment in educational programs and activities. Since the passing of Title IX regulations in 2020 governing educational entities’ response to complaints of sexual harassment, school districts are faced with even greater challenges to ensure their policies and procedures are aligned with federal and state law.

Our attorneys have extensive knowledge of Title IX requirements and work closely with school districts in developing policies and procedures, responding to reports of alleged sexual harassment, and implementing procedures in accordance with Title IX. We also provide training and technical assistance to clients to support their compliance with Title IX.

Higher Education Institutions Title IX

We maintain a Title IX attorney working group to ensure efficient and effective expert analysis in this highly technical area. To assist colleges in addressing allegations of sex discrimination and sex-based harassment under Title IX, we offer: template policies and procedures that incorporate the myriad of requirements under Title IX and related state and federal laws; communication, analysis, and initial revisions to customize our policy and procedure templates to meet individual client needs; and in-service training for Title IX personnel that satisfies the Title IX and Illinois Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act training requirements and addresses updates in the regulations.

When needed, our attorneys also serve as investigators, decision-makers, and appellate decision-makers in Title IX investigations for colleges. Our firm’s knowledge and experience in this area allows our attorneys to provide comprehensive support to colleges to ensure their compliance with the Title IX rules and their regular updates.
