Mariam Z. Jaffery

Mariam Z. Jaffery is an Associate at Robbins Schwartz, where she focuses her practice on Litigation and Labor and Employment. She is recognized for translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance and prioritizes practical solutions to her clients’ most pressing challenges, with the goal of fostering healthy and productive work environments.

Mariam’s litigation experience includes serving as a Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where she handled high-stakes matters in a variety of areas including personnel and employee ethics matters, Freedom of Information Act reviews, Fair Housing Act enforcement, and litigation related to HUD-insured mortgages. This public sector experience enhanced her ability to navigate varied practice settings and collaborate with a range of stakeholders.

Prior to law school, Mariam worked at a legal news start-up, where she reported on emerging legal developments. This experience strengthened her ability to manage complex workloads and deepened her commitment to thorough research and writing. As the child of first-generation immigrants, she understands the challenges of navigating unfamiliar systems, which informs her dedication to making the civil justice system accessible to all.

Mariam earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the American University Washington College of Law. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs, magna cum laude, from The George Washington University. Originally from the Washington, DC area, she has enjoyed becoming active in the Chicago legal community.

Mariam is fluent in Urdu. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, reading fiction, and exploring Chicago with her family.
